Tony Roma's Setia City Mall : Kids eats Free Mon-Wed BUT.....

We love to visit Tony Roma's as the food are usually good and the staffs are friendly at Sunway Pyramid.

Hence the other day when she saw this being offered, she immediately bought though it only valid for Mont Kiara and Setia City Mall outlet. She opted for Setia City Mall as it's nearer.


We went on Wednesday coz Kids's eats Free on Monday to Wednesday

Used the voucher to order the Bountiful Beef Ribs and !/4 Chicken.



  
Playing with the Paper they provided. Too bad they ran out of crayons. The Jie Jie said will bring me a dice to play the Snake and Ladders Game but she must have forgotten. Hence, Mamarazzi lend me her Pen to draw.


After some time lapsed, the drinks came.  I had the Fruity Breeze while Mamarazzi ordered Pepsi for herself as she doesn't like mixed drinks. but I don't mind them . Papa had Pineapple Juice....gave me a bit.


The Soup of the Day tasted good.  Found a lot of ingredients in the soup. Got celery, tomatoes and even bits of meat.


Papa helped me to ordered Pasta from the kids meal menu. When he asked the waiter what pasta they using, the waiter could not answer. A pretty Jie Jie came and answered.

Wow...very big portion leh. Surely I can't finish.





Mamarazzi ordered her favourite Fried Mushroom. She said yummy...crunchy and fresh. But Papa said the ones at Sunway Pyramid branch seems to have bigger size mushrooms.

Guess, mushroom is seasonal too. Sometimes we get big ones and sometimes not so big.

Finally Main Course arrived.  Portion very big.

Mamarazzi and Papa shared. But then Mamarazzi noticed something not so right. She ordered Roasted Vegetables and Rice as sides but how come it turned into broccoli and mashed potatoes?

Papa informed the waiter and he took away the meal.

Then he consulted the pretty Jie Jie wearing white skirt. The Jie Jie came over and apologized. She said we may have the sides that were already in the plate and that she will bring the Roasted Vegetables and rice over in a moment.

Papa had the mashed Potatoes and he liked it very much. Hmmm ...next time must order mashed potatoes as side then.

After the meal, Mamarazzi noticed something is missing...where is my Ice Cream from the kids Meal?

Then come to think of it....aren't kids meal supposed to include appetiser which usually consist of celery and carrots?

It never came. Well, we didn't let them know of this as we were already full but I did go to the pretty Jie Jie and asked for my yummy Vanilla Ice Cream. No....I won't forgo my Vanilla Ice cream!.



 When the bill came, Mamarazzi was surprised that they charged for the Kids Meal as it was Wednesday.

Papa highlighted to the waiter and he went to ask the supervisor. He came back and informed that as we use Groupon Voucher, we are not entitled to the free Kids Meal.

Again Papa highlighted that we paid for the Tony Roma’s Bountiful Beef Ribs with BBQ 1/4 Chicken using Groupon voucher. It was not as if we ate for free with the voucher.



And at their display window they have this banner/poster that said that Kids Eat Free on Monday - Wednesday subject to several conditions. Among then is with every adult entree ordered. Aren't Tony Roma’s Bountiful Beef Ribs with BBQ 1/4 Chicken an adult entree.

The waiter once again went to consult his supervisor. Ding dong ding dong a few staffs then the Jie Jie in white skirt came with the Waiter and informed that Kids Eats For Free on Monday to Wednesday IS not applicable in Groupon voucher. It's for ALA CARTE entree ordered only.

If that is the case, why is it not stated ALA CARTE entree ordered in their poster like those of others restaurant or  state in one of those notices that says "*** not valid under any other promotions".

 It was not stated too in their advertisement in Groupon.

Oh well.....as people say, that's what under the bridge. As for the confusion on the Jie Jie never bring the dice for me, the one taking order doesn't know what kind of pasta, the mixed up side dishes,  my forgotten appetiser and free flow drinks not refilled promptly ..let's chalk it up to teething problem of a new outlet. Nothing that a bit more training cannot rectify.

Overall, the food there was good. Mamarazzi really love the ribs. The Chef had certainly done a good job on that.

Despite everything, Mamarazzi can say is that the staffs there have a very positive attitude. The Hostess and the Waiter apologised for the mixed up and confusion.

  1. Oh My... So sorry about the kids meal--but you certainly were smart to talk to them about it. We've used Groupon several times --and you do have to ask alot of questions and read that fine print.... We had to leave one night early from one of our Groupon motels --and they wouldn't give us any money back BECAUSE it was a Groupon... Things like that happen!!!! We have gotten several good deals on motels and inns and hotels when we travel --but we work hard to get all of those questions answered....

    We have Tony Roma's in this country and I may have eaten there a few times, but not recently... Sounds like you all had a FAIR experience there --even though the food was good...

    1. Betsy, the thing is that it was rather hard to get information from the staffs as they did not really know what "promotion" that they are having. The Waiter had to go and ask their superior and then when we come up with another question he had to ask again . Not enough with that, Mamarazzi saw he consulted others staffs too.

      Yes, it's a unfair for the motel to penalise you just because it's from your Groupon. When the motels advertise or do promotion under the marketing company , they should really state everything clearly . They should have refunded your money as they omitted to state no refund will be given in the even of cancellation. After all you bought the deal in good faith .

      Anyway, the food at Tony Roma's was good. Cant wait for their Sunway Pyramid outlet to be up and going again. They are under renovation currently

  2. Hhhmmm, they really should state all these conditions properly. So in the end, I guess you have no choice but to pay for the kids' meal. Since you have to pay, should ask for the appetiser.

    1. Am in the opinion that they should have stated the conditions properly .

      Anyway, the word "entree" is already subject to dispute as the word entrée in the United States means a main course. On the contrarily,in France as well as in other English-speaking countries, the entrée means what we would call the appetizer course.

      Well since the condition states that "with every adult entree ordered", I would assume the Tony Roma’s Bountiful Beef Ribs with BBQ 1/4 Chicken an adult entree. After all we paid for it via coupons .

      Not satisfied when the staffs suddenly come out with the word "ala carte entree ordered" where else even in their window display and their websitedid not have the word ala carte

  4. Haiz....very bad lah like that. That's why I never trust all these coupons and whatever promotions. There is always a catch somewhere.

    1. Nothing wrong with these coupon promotions. AFter all they are just the "middleman" to the business transaction between the customer and their client.

      Mamarazzi was not satisfied at the client where they should have stated the said in their advertisement in Groupon and whereas their window display of the Kids Eats Free is open to dispute as they did not specify the word "Ala Carte" while the staffs said it's for "Ala Carte" meal only

    When it comes to promotion, it's like tat, they just don't state clearly, let you go in and spend first... then only tell you, this not included, that no included.... sigh~

    1. You should try Tony Roma's food. They are good,

      When it comes for promotions, I wanna ask "what is the aim?". To get more exposure and if possible long term customer , right. A happy and satisfied customer is a returning customer. It would be best to state everything clearly and left nothing ambiguious then everyone will be happy and when can't answer the question don;t ick words like ALA CARTE from the air

  6. The Groupon site should have stated that promotions in the outlet is not valid with the voucher. I encountered such incident before. I was buying a deal from Groupon last year, and when I went to the outlet, there is a promotion where we can get our drinks for half of the price with the purchased items. We ordered the drink and was charged at full price. we only aware of this when we pay the bill. The restaurant should clarify this when we order or at the site rather than during the bill payment time.

    1. yes...I think not Groupon fault la coz they publish what ever that their client give them. Yes, the restaurant should have informed earlier that it;s not applcable with other promotion.

  7. yalah, don't really have high expectation on Groupon things lah.. it may seem interesting but then i guess there are lots of restrictions.. especially those service industries, most of the time when they know you come in with Groupon, the service will immediately go sub-standard..

    1. i have not bought anything from Groupon so far, and even if i want to get something, i will make sure it's from a big name.. at least the reputation is gonna guarantee the product/service i am buying right?? but then, hmmmm, this is Malaysia, anything can happen out of your expectation without reasonable explanation..

    2. very true that your situation is arguable.. there is no written notice that the "kids eat for free" is not valid for discounted items!! it just says "EVERY ADULT ENTREE" and no mention on promotion or Groupon!! i think you can write to the consumer rights association lah..

    3. albeit all those, i think you still enjoy your meal there right?? food was good and the waiters were polite too.. only if i encounter rude waiters then i will feel frustrated.. polite ones then sometimes enough to "meredakan" all the frustration lah.. :)

    4. LOL...Tony Roma's is a big name lor . That is why have high expectation. The staffs treat us same as anyone but the lack of attention must have been due to the outlet is still new and the staffs less alert that those outlet like Pyramid and midvalley. Those two branches have a lot of customers daily so the stafss were kept to their toes ever moment.

      no need to write to consumer rights la. Just given feed back through their website. Saja not happy when they suddenly come out with the word "ala carte" padahal not stated anywhere in their FB, website and promotional banner/poster.

      Ya...at least the food is good and the staffs did not show "muka hitam" la.

  8. i recommend you give your feedback and this url to tony roma's website. the feedback will be sent directly to the us hq. if they think your complaint is valid they may offer a meal on the house as compensation. even if they don't, at least they will note your feedback and tell the m'sia hq to make sure their t&c is more accurate so as to not confuse customers.

      Let's hope they will make the T & C more accurate.

      Saw the next table was using Groupon vouchers too. And they have a toddler. Not sure if they ordered kids meal or not as we were leaving at that time

    2. Complimentary half Onion Loaf??? it's like a kick in the gut and a slap in the face! it will cost them Rm2 maximum! then you will be passing wind all day from the onion :p

  9. Hmm in some countries, the word entree refers to appetizer. If I were you, I'd probably push on the fact that you DID order an appetizer, which was the Fried mushrooms, and you did pay ala carte price for that! Hehe anyway, what's happened cannot be undone. At least you had a good meal there :)

  11. TR ribs are one of the best. My husband loves their beef ribs very much. We have tried Kid Eats Free on Wednesday a few times when we were in KL.

  12. I don't trust Groupon.... there are many hidden rules and regulations, which is not transparent to the consumer and I feel cheated.

    1. price and food was okay but not satisfied with the Kids Meals issue. It's not ethical that they simply revised the T & C without informing customer and their promotional banners and all still states that " with every adult entree ordered".

    I found that under the groupon m'sia Universal Fine Print and Deal FAQ (link below) that:

    "Vouchers cannot be combined with any other offer/promotion unless stated otherwise."

    so I guess that is why the "kids eat free" offer is not applicable when you are using vouchers for the main meal.

    Personally I have bought vouchers from a few websites (not only groupons but others like livingsocial, mydeal) and I find that as long as our expectations are in line with deals with vouchers and we read through all the fine and very small print, they are really good deals.
