Mamarazzi bought this packet of Bak-kut-teh herbs a few years ago from Penang. Been in the fridge ever since.
She thought of having some Bak-kut-Teh soup that day but no shop near our place sells Bak-Kut-Teh.
Dug in the fridge....hmm....no suitable pork to make Bak-Kut-Teh. Wanna go to Wet market pulak very far leh....gotta make appointment with Papa early early leh to go market. Not like last time. Tomorrow wanna go market can tell him tonight.
No mini market also within walking distance to buy grocery from. How ah? No suitable pork nor chicken meat in the fridge.. but wait...there's a packet of Beef tripe . Been meaning to cook Uncle Arthur's masak hitam with it but kept postpone.
hentam la...cut and throw in the beef tripe. Put one piece of meat. Boiled for 2-3 hours....hmmm...very nice aroma.
Taste?Mamarazzi ate and she said it's not bad.
Mamarazzi even made the "oil" rice. Just pour a bowl of BKT soup with the rice and cook. The rice turns out pretty well.
Hmm...I ate a bit only. Didn't finish my rice coz I was full after drinking a whole can of 100plus before dinner.
Kena Mamarazzi scold coz she penat-penat cook already but don't wanna eat pulak. Err....like that I eat chips la when I am hungry.
oh, can cook rice with BKT soup. I haven't thought of that. maybe I should try one day.
ReplyDeleteThe rice more fragrant if cook with the soup
DeleteErm you mean this packet is from few years ago til now?? Still can eat kah? :p
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge no problem. No lausai
Deletecow kut teh! Yumz! hahaha... i normally get my pork supplies from giant or tesco. I know it's not cheap but nothing beats pork! :P
ReplyDeleteHere far from any hypermarkets. .only have econ save. Even that have to drive lor and not selling pork pun
DeleteMust be very tasty but I have not eaten beef bkt before. Did Small Kucing curi minum 100plus before dinner? Must kena scolding if like that.
ReplyDeleteNot bad la. Similar to pork ones
DeletePhil loves chips, too, they are his favorite snack!
ReplyDeleteDobt everyone loves it :)
DeleteHehehehehe!!! Tak suruh did cook pun hor? Kan makan chips lagi best? Hehehehehehe!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo need to cook la. Hari hari eat instant noodle. Make sure go buy instant noodles punya share. Sure go up.
DeleteAikks... Did I just read the word "few years ago"? Still can pakai ahh? Hehe..
ReplyDeleteCan. No cacing. Still very fragrant.
Deletehahaha, another improvise cooking from mamarazzi!! good, actually why haven't anyone came out with the idea of beef BKT at all?? i've only heard of pork and chicken the most, but never beef!! mamarazzi is the pioneer white mouse huh?? errr, next round maybe mutton BKT?? haha~~ :D
ReplyDeleteMutton BKT already have leh. Saw in one of those makan show. Think it was in kepong or something
Deletewooi, not bad woh by just looking at the photo.. doesn't look like BKT but looks like stewed beef or something lah (cos still cannot imagine beef BKT mah).. but that "oil rice", fuyoh, very tempting me leh.. the color is nice and also the rice are separated in grains!! i can eat the rice alone for two bowls i guess :p
ReplyDeleteCoz not enuf meat so doesn't look like BKT . Mostly put the tripe.
DeleteYup this way of cooking the "oil" rice taste nicer than putting butter or majerin
aiyoh, why lah had one whole can of 100 plus right before dinner?? true what mamarazzi merajuk, she took so much effort cooking her innovative beef BKT yet small kucing ate only little.. errr, mamarazzi didn't keep the rice for small kucing?? good also, punish him this way like Auntie Lina.. don't want to eat?? fine, then never have the chance to eat anymore in the future!! :p
ReplyDeleteMuhahaha...
DeleteThe packet of BKT so long still can eat?
ReplyDeleteCan. Still fragrant and no lausai
DeleteWait, wait, wait not yet lausai la. I predict this Kaldip will explode the Sungai Buloh's vicinity soon.

DeleteNaughty Small Kucing. No eat what Mamarazzi cooked but later go find chips pulak! ;P
ReplyDeleteMust follow your style...don't wanna eat don't eat !
DeleteGood use to the packet of BKT but I can't comment about the taste because beef is a taboo for us.
ReplyDeleteMaybe can put mutton voz saw in tv show got ppl cook mutton BKT
DeleteI think it was definitely safe since you put them in the fridge. I was shocked to watch the documentary that the farmers in Korea deep freeze their strawberries in freezers for up to 2 years! They could still export them fresh later.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how to deep freeze strawberry and come out fresh. Gotta pearn the trick. Mine if put into freezer come out mushy.
DeleteWaa! First time I heard Beef could be used for BKT. I only knew chicken was suitable as the smell is not strong but not beef la. Next time you will try Mutton too!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteWei....the BKT soup taste n smell r stronger than the meat la. If boil long time all sebati liao. No more mutton/beef/pork smell
DeleteThanks for teaching me how to make that rice. I have been dead curious for a long time on this. I also have ready mix packets of Bak Kut Teh sachets at home. The promoter advised me to throw in 4-5 bulbs of garlic.
ReplyDeleteYes garlic is a must. No need to peel the skin. Just wash n put in n boil. If you hv gei zhi (goji) , u can add into the soup. Taste sweeter. And mushrooms too
DeleteChips is not very for health, don't eat so much ooo!!! =]
ReplyDelete:p
DeleteI have never had beef BKT! It does have a very nice ring to it though! :)
ReplyDeleteChicken I had before, and of course pork, but not beef. I agree, tripe sounds like it would taste good and I like the oily rice you made too.
hahaha....experiment :p
Deletehmm. Never try beef kut teh before. Wonder the beef will overwhelming over the taste of bak kut teh or not. But I think I would still prefer pork. Usually love to take the pork ribs, soft bones and the pork belly parts when have this soup
ReplyDeletepork is nice but some who cant take pork chicken or beef will be a good option
