Sugar overload...had coca-cola and Coconut Jelly. I refused to sleep till we arrived at Temerloh...while Papa and Mamarazzi hunting for Ikan Patin, I dozed off.
Woke up found myself here. A small stall by the roadside. The stall that we went to last time was not open.
I asked camera from Mamarazzi. I wanna snap photo....clear ah the photos? well....Mamarazzi "edited" them la.
This man "terror lah". He can catch the fish by using his hand only. No need to use net!
3.5kg...for 4 Patin Fish....nat bad.
He also helped Mamarazzi to clean the fish.
Chop! Chop! Chop! and the wifey wrap them up and collect money.
Not bad la...Doesn't even cost RM50.
As it was
getting late, Mamarazzi suggested we have dinner at Temerloh. It was
school holiday. The highway is expected to be pretty jam up. Better
"makan"(eat) first.
Googled
and saw many recommend "Gerai Makan Pak Usop" at Temerloh Esplanade.
Got lost a few times coz the GPS got "dizzy". Halfway, navigating it
would suddenly say "Route re-calculation".
Gave up....just "hentam" and drive blindly la. Spotted the stall.. Too bad it was closed...*sobs*
Lucky for us, the stall next to it was open and it was also another recommended eating place. Gerai Kak Mek
Wow...they have TWO big pot of Gulai Tempoyak Ikan Patin. For those of you who doesn't know, tempoyak is fermented durians. It's used to cook gulai which is a type of "soupy" food. It's spicy and and have curry-like sauce.
Papa asked the price before ordering coz we read somewhere that some stall sells this type of fish at an exorbitant price.
this piece
was RM10. Not bad la coz it was such a big piece. initially Papa wanted
to have both the head and tail but luckly Mamarazzi said one piece is
enough. Too much can't finish.
True enough...one piece was just nice for us.
Some additional dishes
For me...I opted to be safe. I had Keoy Teow Ladna. Not spicy at all though it looks yellow.
Mamarazzi said last time when she was in Standard 6, a Malay friend invited her to her Hari Raya open house. The mother cooked up a storm, rendang daging, curry chicken etc. Most of the dishes have red color..meanning contains Cili.
Mamarazzi can't take much of Cili la....she spotted one dish which is yellow in color. Hmmm...that one must be a "safe" dish. Yellow couldn't be spicy, right.
Oh boy! how wrong she was. It was Gulai Tempoyak. Mak Datuk Oi!! It was so spicy that she can't feel her tongue anymore. It was cooked with "cili padi" (Bird's eye chili). That is the super spicy cili as compared to the normal red ones.
Papa had to "cool down" with this.
Fuih....that was one experience that I won't forget so soon
Oh ya...where is this stall...it's located at C-1, Lurah Semantan, Temerloh. Googled the phone number is : 09-296 5602
If you are using the same sotplug GPS that Mamarazzi is using, try pointing it to Petronas at Lurah Semantan. It's easier. The row of stall is just opposite of the petrol station.
Tempoyak? Looks like my masak kunyit... My post on ikan patin already scheduled but will have to wait a loooong time for it. Hehehehehehe!!!!

DeleteI am afraid to comment about reading about the super spicy gulai tempoyak. Wonder if we have the same power to digest spicy food but the super spicy sounds over spicy. Gulai tempoyak is my fav. I just love Malay food and sometimes I wonder how that can be for an Indian like me. Give me any Malay food including sambal belacan and I will be very happy.
ReplyDeletehahaha...it depends la. I think you will have no problem with the spiciness of this tempoyak. Just that Papa and Mamarazzi not used to spicy food hence "rained".
Deletean adventure!!
