Seeing that we have some fish maw given by Ah Mah during Chinese New Year, Mamarazzi pun attempt to make the dish la.
The Fish Maw must have been kept too long coz it had "oil" smell. Rinsed many times with hot water still have the smell. Pakai hentam la.
Too bad Mamarazzi didn't have sole fish. Guess she just have to make do with ikan bilis la.
The dish turns out quite okay la. Just not enough gravy. Must remember to add more water next time. *Do hop over to Sonia's blog for the proper recipe*
That night syok lor.....I get to have my Ayam Goreng Kunyit.
And this funny dish....fried and blanched Kai Lan. Mamarazzi thought I would love the fried "leaf" but sorry, I didn't.
Instead, I love the crunchy stems.....I can just chomp chomp chomp like a rabbit.
You want some?
Hmmm, I don't think we have this vegetable here. The closest thing may be celery, good to chomp and also fill with peanut butter.
ReplyDeleteit's totally different from celery. maybe in asian market will have this vegetable
Deletehahhaa .. little kucing really enjoying the meal, that means its delicious!
ReplyDeletehahah lapar wor
DeleteEating is always a pleasure.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip

DeleteYes, boiled kai lan is very sweet, I love the crunchy stems too. Maybe we were rabbits in our previous life. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL.....you speak the mind of Bananaz. see the below comments
DeleteFish maw is still fish maw but when become over ambitious might grow into some bigger fish haha..
ReplyDeletebhahaha.......duno la...become like weird jor
DeleteCat takes over the rabbit in Vietnamese lunar zodiac. So small kucing is also rabbit.. nom nom nom or chomp chomp chomp all you like
ReplyDeletebetul ka.....hahahaha...no wonder la
DeleteLuffa gourd? Black fungus? These 2 things would make me cringe when my mom cooked them. I could only tolerate them when I was 20 years old. Actually, I still don't tolerate black fungus well even nowadays. Small kucing is more tolerant, good!
ReplyDeletewhy?? allergic to it or doesnt like the smell?
DeleteDon't like the texture of black fungus, every time I put it in the mouth, it makes me feel very geli. Don't know the exact reason why it makes me feel geli. It just is!
DeleteI also prefer blanched kai lan. I have eaten the ones at restaurant where they fry the leaves until crispy was I was not impressed.
ReplyDeleteGood la J got eat greens! Must train them since young ho? Haih, my Aden dislike any greens! Headache la!
ReplyDeletemaybe try the crunchy kai lan?
DeleteWell--you know that every good cook makes dishes which need a little more of this or a little less of that.. That's how we all LEARN. Next time, do it again and just add more gravy!!!!!! The key is to keep on TRYING new things!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Thanks for the encouragement, Betsy :)
DeleteI like the first dish... that alone will do for me.. all the goodness are there... ! About the fish maw, if got fishy smell, can boil it first with hot water? I mean blanch it first to take away the oil.. maybe not so oily then...
ReplyDeletenot fishy smell...got like "Yau yik" smell
DeleteHi small cat..thanks ye sudi drop comment at my blog :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by JM
DeleteI always like Sonia recipe...

DeleteYou got a funny Mamarazzi who apa pun boleh hentam and cook fry them. Yummy right? She is innovative chef and can survive in any jungles. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou will have healthy body cos you eat so much vegies more than a rabbit. Usually young kids hate any green leaves on the dinner plate. Good good! Stay healthy always!
ReplyDeleteHappy Merdeka to you and family!

Deletewah, "Claypot Luffa gourds, Black fungus and Fish Maw 胜瓜云耳浸鱼肚" woh, Uncle SK read the name already think this is a very high class and ambitious dish leh.. but Mamarazzi pandai woh, able to cook something that looks "ada papan ada mata" woh.. Uncle SK actually likes this dish leh, maybe the fish maw will absorb water that's why not enough gravy kot??
ReplyDeleteya wor...next time just put more water.
Deletethe fish maw also can used to cook soup leh.. Uncle SK's daddy sometimes cook simple white cabbage soup and taruh some fish maw inside, Uncle SK like this soup very much, simple and "ching", very nice.. or else, the fish maw also nice if use to cook the toufu broth leh, cos the texture very ngam with toufu mah.. and people say eat more fish maw the complexion will improve because of the collagen..
ReplyDeleteoooh ya ka...liddat must ask Mamarazzi go borong more fishmaw liao
Deletewah, once meal Mamarazzi cooked so many dishes ah?? got that "ambitious" dish not enough, somemore got the ayam goreng kunyit and two style kailan.. looks good leh, the ayam goreng must be specially made for Small Kucing lah.. the two style kailan, Uncle SK first had this at a restaurant in Sri Kembangan, that one selling the white claypot Loh Swee Fun that one, can't remember the name already, Mamarazzi also went there before.. very nice~~
ReplyDeleteeat "vege" no eat rice lo... LOL

DeleteBoiled kai lan is healthier. Glad that small kucing eats vegetables :)
ReplyDeletealways boiled so this round try both style lo
