The ingredient according to Papa....some dried shrimps, some garlic, some belacan and fresh Chili.
Pound everything together
Kinda hard work pounding all that till fine. It would be easier if use a blender but then Papa will say it doesn't taste the same.
We had some pomelo and mamarazzi wanted Pomelo Salad. Papa asked Mamarazzi for the pounded Sambal Belacan(uncooked). Mixed it well with the pomelo.
The rest, she put some oil into the wok and fried it till fragrant before adding in the cooked white rice. Papa said tasted good but still lacking of something. Maybe lacking of mom's love? Ah Mah used to cook this for papa to eat.
As for me....poor me...I can;t eat either of it.....Mamarazzi made me normal Fried Rice without the Sambal. Just egg and rice. Not bad la.
I have lots of dried shrimps..i must make some sambal. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteya many people also like loads of dried shrimps
DeleteI am sure Small Kucing will be more than happy to help to pound the sambal belacan.
ReplyDeleteyup..can "help" to make messy
DeleteYummmm...tambah a bit bawang merah, will add to the taste! Ya, papa's right...must pound...use blender, where got the same? Like eating satay in 5-star hotels.

Deletewah, nice woh.. but pomelo salad with belacan is something new to me, never tried before.. nice ke?? but how easy is that for you to peel the pomelo?? i am really bad in this, always take me long time and also the pomelo may ended up squashed, haha!! :D
ReplyDeleteMe also never tried pomelo salad with belacan.
DeleteMaybe mamarazzi can provide the recipe here :D
SK-Senang la peel pomelo. Just cut at the side and kopek.

i just love fried rice of any kind lah, never get tired of it.. hmmm, so your belacan fried rice really just belacan with rice, so plain ah?? hmmm, good if can add some chicken pieces, crispy anchovies and some cili padi huh?? haha.. anyway, you still need to cook separately for small kucing lah..
ReplyDeleteHi 5, SK! I love fried rice and that's my top choice whenever I dine out~
DeleteHowever this has limit my menu, because I tend to order fried rice and fried rice only, hehehe!
SK - coz Mamarazzi lazy lo. lazy to go defrost chicken :p
DeleteYvonne hahaha....same same
wah, lacking of something?? this feedback is really very abstract lah, hahahaha!! maybe mamarazzi wanna dress and makeup in grandma style to cook, then will have that taste~~ :p
ReplyDeleteMuhahaha...means cook wearing sarung ah?
DeleteYou're right, pounding and blending certainly create 2 different taste ;)
ReplyDeleteI prefer pounding though it's more hard works..
hard work lo pounding and danger of cili juice splashing to eyes
DeleteThe sambal belacan does look delicious! Haven't tried this fried rice before. Must try one day. I enjoy opening a pomelo. Enjoy peeling off the fibre inside. Very therapeutic. Weird, huh?
ReplyDeletetherapeutic?? LOL....okie next time borong pomelo for you :p
Deletei never thought pomelo can be used for salad,
ReplyDeletei mean i love as it is or as juice but that i guess
was kinda interesting
ya pomelo can have many usage
Deletehaha maybe put a little bit more seasonings
ReplyDeletebut though it looks perfect to me
maybe need more seasoning
Deletebut i bet its kinda spicy huh
ReplyDeletei think your husband is right it does taste better prepared that way
hahaha....depend on who is eating
Deletehave a great day and happy blogging to you small kucing god bless you and your family and please do take the best of care
ReplyDeletethe same to you
DeleteWah....sambal belacan fried rice! What is missing? Perhaps some fish sauce?
ReplyDeleteHv to put fish sauce ah???? no wonder la
DeleteI also prefer to 'tumbuk' the ingredients when I make Sambal Belacan fried rice. More tasty. :-)
ReplyDeleteya more tasty
DeleteBlending and pounding have different effect? I guess the different is because of our psychology - we would weigh the hard work spent on pounding = better taste, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteBtw, I prefer pounding of the chilli, yeap, taste is the best!
hahaha.....coz added"extra sweat" kot :p
DeleteWanna eat... wanna eat..
ReplyDeletehahaha jom
DeleteWhat a coincident that I had sambal belacan fried rice in my mind for lunch tomorrow. I love anything with belacan but your recipe is unique with pomelo. How I wish I can get a pomelo for my fried rice tomorrow so I can try to do the same. Will go to the supermarket and look for one and try this fav recipe.
