A Chinese Wedding & Dinner at The Golden Sun Restaurant in Kuchai Lama

Have you received any "red bombs" lately? Usually when comes year end, there will be a lot of "red bombs" dropped. You know what is "red bombs" right? It's actually a good thingy...a.k.a. Wedding Invitation.

Yup last month we received a "Red Bomb" I got to see how a  traditional Chinese Wedding is done. Not really traditional la but it incorporated most of the Chinese wedding elements la. If truly wanna follow the traditional way...adui.... will be a lot lo.

We were invited by the Groom side. When we arrived, the Groom and his buddies had already gone out to fetch the bride.

Before the Groom and the Bride arrive, the parents of the groom got ready some prayer items with the help from a staff of a one-stop wedding centre.

Manyak terrer leh. Mamarazzi didn't know have such thing leh. This One-stop Centre caters for everything....from morning buffet for the morning session, photographers and videographers, prayer items, tea ceremony items and even "Dai Kum Jie" for hire!

"Dai Kum Jie" (大妗姐), is something like Chaperon for the Bride. In the old days, Dai Kum Jie have to be some one that is happily married with loads of children. Dai Kum Jie during the whole ceremony will have to speak auspicious words and help to guide the Groom and Bride through the ceremony.

When the wedding car arrived, with guidance from the Dai Kum Jie ; a male child from the Groom side gave some mandarin oranges to the new couple through the window. Not very sure what it means but maybe mandarin orange is called "Kum" in Chinese...maybe means "Gold". Could be symbolise bringing gold to the family.

The new Couples then gave him and Angpau (red packet) and he opens the car doors for the new Couple.

All these while the Dai Kum Jie non-stop saying auspicious words and they proceed to pray for blessing.

Then comes the Tea Ceremony. Not going to post up photo of the Tea Ceremony as it was kinda private . Basically the Groom and Bride gave tea to their elders and their elders gave them gifts or Angpau in return. Guess, you have seen many Tea  Ceremony in television drama to know how it went lah.

Next was the family photography session .

Next comes the fun part.....Breaking the "Potty" . My first time seeing. Everyone went into the Groom and Bride bedroom.

They had this "potty" wrapped with red paper. The male child have to break the red paper and retrieve fruit from the potty. Of course the potty is a brand new one lah.

The Dai Kum Jie was saying something about having child early and etc .

Then both the Groom and Bride rolled the fruit on the bed. Also something about having children early lah.

Followed by a male and female child were asked to roll on the bed pulak.  It sure looks fun.

All the rolling here and there...i see i also feel tired liao lor. . Whole morning with all the ceremony and stuffs like that. Sure looks a lot of work getting married and that is only the first half.

Jughead must replenish energy liao.. Lucky, the buffet serve got loads of yummy food. Main thing...got "noodles"! Okay la...not noodles la but got bihun also can la.

They even have Cendol leh! Fuiyoh...best lah.

Rested for awhile. The come the second half pulak. Wah...I see the Bride and Groom no rest at all. They had to fast fast eat some lunch then the Make-up artist and hairdresser came already to get them ready for the evening reception.

Me...easy la... just a quick shower and a change of cloth... sprayed some "toilet water" .
.
Ah.....must not miss my "ketiak". Gonna be running here and there in the restaurant and be the "usher". Yeah.,...Mamarazzi got roped in to be one of the receptionist for the dinner.

Stationed by the door, Mamarazzi collect angpau money let Guests know their table assignment. When they know their table number, I took them to their table. Errr....that was my assignment la from Mamarazzi. That is till I found out that there is free flow of soft drink that night.

When I got to know about it...I "guai-guai" went to our table and sat down. I kept pestering the waitress for orange juice...according to Mamarazzi's friends who were at the same table lah.

Receptionist job over liao. And time to MAKAN!!!

First dish......four season....yummy according to Mamarazzi. By then I was hyper with sugar rush liao la. And too much water liao....kept going to toilet to relief myself and also find excuses to kaypoh here and there.

Next dish was special. Double boiled Chicken soup with dried scallop and codycep. We don't usually get this at wedding. Sure  is something fresh.

Again....went to washroom....to wash hands.

Usually at weddings, there will be leftover when comes to chicken dish but this time....habis makan all. I love the crispy chicken skin.

Again run to the washroom to....errr....forgotten the reason liao..

When I came back the waitress cleared my plate liao.

Grrrr!!! Mamarazzi why you never stop them leh...I haven't finish leh. But by that time, Mamarazzi was turning red as a lobster liao due to the wine served.

One of Mamarazzi wacky friend "Selfie-ing" or snapping photo of a "lobster"..  Muhahahaha..

The Steamed Tiger Grouper was also very popular. I know some of you are scared of the "tiger" mouth so  hide it lo.

Not interested on fish....run to kacau Mamarazzi's friend's son.

Tiger Prawns. Surprisingly there was some leftover wor. It was fresh but guess people are more health concious nowadays. Worried about cholesterol. Mamarazzi sapu the rest la. Peel some for me  leh.

As usual...there was a break for "YUM SING". It's toasting session where everyone yelled shout at the top of their voice.. YUMMMMMMMMMM SINGGGGGGGGG!

I yelled so loud till my voice was hoarse the next day . It was fun. **LOL**

I like the mushroom and broccoli dish. Oppss..i mean i like the broccoli.

Again went and "kaypoh" with one of Mamarazzi's Lenglui friend. But too bad she is already married  with sons...no daughters..yet.

Then new couple with their parents came to our table for another toastiung session...YUMMMMMM SINNNNNGGGGGGG SINNNNG SIIIIIIIINNNNNGGGGG!

With all the yum sing-ing around and the lovely dishes earlier on, everyone were too full to finish all of the Glutinous Rice liao. Even Papa who love Glutionious rice had to surrender liao.

Last two dishes...refreshing sweet Thong Sui, Mochi and crispy pancakes.

Yikes! Last dish already ah? I barely ate anything leh ..too busy running here and there kaypoh-ing. .....wait up!!!Don't clear yet.....I wanna eat some  more leh....

Wah!!! Roast chicken with keropok, Long time no see. I would want to tapao the glutinous rice home. Did you do that? So sayang wor... Later, they throw it all away. I would love the prawns too - so rugi those people did not want to eat. Not that they would get to eat it every day mah. Once in a long while will not kill them. So silly! If allergic, of course, no choice lah.

I see the food here - better than the dinners I have had at other places in KL. Next time, take me along, can? The food you had at the buffet also looks nice.

Uncle SK loves the first dish the most lah, always a platter, and probably because everyone is already hungry waiting, sure tastes more delicious and always sapu habis one..

    1. Angpau have to be bigger to cover the per head cost for the dinner. Now one table of 10 person is already minimum RM800. With GST...lagi teruk

Chinese dinner must have the usual Fish , chinese meat and prawns. Only difference is how they cook it.
