What's Your Game Plan For Big Bad Wolf Books Sale?

These coming weeks I think you are going to vomit blood from having Mamarazzi raving about Big Bad Wolf Books Sale.....if you have not already. Yeah...she kena BBWS fever liao.

Mamarazzi starting to panic now. It's less than one month to go. What book shall she aim for? What is the best time to arrive and such....

Mamarazzi recalled the first time she heard of Big Bad Wolf Books Sale was through Uncle Newton who is a regular customer of BookXcess.

At that time Big Bad Wolf Books Sale was held at Dataran Hamodal in year 2009 . That was the first time I went for the sale

That was when Mamarazzi got struck by BBWBS fever. Crazy price man!!! It was so cheap. Books which usual priced at RM30 and above was selling for RM8.

The same game plan goes for year 2010. Just grab anything and everything that can be put into trolley and boxes.

For year 2011, her game plan change a bit. She wanted to interest me in books. I didn't know how to read yet, she bought more interactive books for me. These books were selling dirt cheap leh. Normal price was RM50 to RM100 per book but here they were going for less than RM20 each.

The same goes for year 2012.By now, I had my favourite TV shows like Handy Manny, Bob the Builder and Chuggington . She hunted these books for me.

Year 2013, my taste in books started to change. Maybe due to growing up and I have become more curious on how things works. I like to read picture dictionary, facts and encyclopedia type of books. Hence Mamarazzi targeted more knowledge based books and books with more words for me

Year 2013 also the year she bought less books for herself and being more selective as her library is bursting with books that are pending to be read.

What about 2014? Mamarazzi is thinking of getting more "comic" type of books like these for me.

Last year found a few in the sale. RM5 only and hardcover some more. But our collection is not complete. Hopefully this year we can complete it.

Why buy comics for me?

Aren't it "bad" for kids? Well, Mamarazzi reasoned that next year I'll be starting Primary school. Will be a tough first year as everything will be so "alien" to me. She can't help me to study.

Morning will be sending me for day care which also double up as tuition center. There they will check my homework and I will have tuition there. In the afternoon, it will be school time. Came home bathe, have my dinner and then do my homework . Next day the same all over again. Really won't have time to breath at all.

Maybe these "comics" or "graphic novels" will help me to de-stress some.

So...if you are in the Big Bad Wolf Books Sale and spotted any of these books like Tin Tin or kids graphic Novels, do give Mamarazzi a buzz okay.

Lucky for me as Big Bad Wolf Book Sale have books for people from all ages. And the books can even accompany ones growing up like me.....

  4. Usually I will just tumpang my sister to get the books for me.. I wanted to go there too myself but I don't have a 'strategy' yet.. They say you need to know what you want before you even get in there, not go inside and slowly flip the books and act like a princess.. And oohh get ready trolley bags :D

    1. It's always good to have an idea of what sort of books you are looking for. No need the specific titles as you won;t know what they have in stock there. But yes, you can take your time nto slowly fluip through coz they are open 24 hours. And once your trolley/box is full, you can put it at the Customer Service area and they will keep for you while u hunt for more books

They will open up new boxes of books to replenish the empty tables . There are always surprises daily.

  5. Those Tintin comics were the one that helped auntie Lina learn English, you know.

So those who think comics are frivolous reading are wrong. ;)

  9. now seeing the price of books we can get at BBWS, makes Uncle SK ponders, is those sold at retail price earning too exorbitantly high?? or just BBWS mark up the price and then just slash to lower price?? or BBWS just set low profit margin but goes by sales volume?? probably the first and last hypothesis huh?? :)

    1. Both also not accurate la.

Books from BBWS are remained or over printed books from the publishers. Sometimes publisher wants 100K XXX books but printed 120K So the extra they dont throw la. Just sell to BBWS lo. Puclisher have some books that have been returned to them coz cannot finish selling...macam roti in shop la.....so they sell to BBWS in bulk and very cheap lor.

BBWS get cheap books so they sell to us at a low price la. They tarak mark up those books price. Can always survey online and in other book store ma....those John Grisham, Dan Brown , Jodi Picoult minimum is selling RM30 a book...but BBWS selling RM8.

  17. Your mama is not alone in this...I'm crazy for BBW too! Been going for the past 2 years and this year is no different...can't wait :) I only have one game plan (and it's the same every year)...I head straight to the cookbook section...coz I only buy celebrity chef cookbooks. I was a "dungu" before I discovered BBW, buying them at retail prices from Kinokuniya! Although I still do now sometimes...when I cannot "tahan" to get my hands on a new release or can't find some of these chef cookbooks at BBW. BBW are able to offer such prices bcoz they're usually back-dated copies or those where the publisher 'boasts' about selling a million copies (so, overprint lar, like Jaime Oliver and Nigella Lawson).
My friend is just like your mama...she buys books at BBW to last her children for one year until the next BBW comes along :D (Oh dear, I think I talk too much already...but that's what adults do)!
    P/S: Creative blog...coming from a little one's perspective ;)

Must borong kau kau since price so low. Books have no expiry date unlike foodstuffs

  18. My game plan for this one will be the same as I've always done: stick to the wish list.

That, and skipping the kids, romance, Malay novel sections, etc of the sale. Not even bothering with the Jamie/Nigella/Gordon Ramsay books, etc.

But I have the feeling that my (whatever) eventual haul will be pretty minimal.

    1. Yea.......from previous year also...the bigger the sale...the less book you found.

    1. Finding the right book is important coz it will help a kid to feel interested in reading. If the book is not the correct age then the kid will not be interested in reading
