June - Makan Trip to Ipoh

Remember my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary and Ah Kung's 80th birthday celebration in June? 

My Kaw Kaw planned it with Papa and fly back to join the celebration. She came back early and it was a school holiday, we decided to go on a makan trip to Ipoh.

Go Ipoh of course must look for Auntie Claire. Wahhhhh!!!! a big WELCOME gift from Auntie Claire. Yumz.....

 After chatting some, we went to a relative house and I got to paddle in the pool . Syoknya.....

That evening Auntie Claire bring us to Restarrant Tuck Kee at Jalan Theater coz Mamarazzi missed eating this. Steamed octopus. So delicious.

Not only that leh....she even ordered a plate of braised chicken feet for me . 

 

I love it and practically finished the whole plate by myself

 Also had Wat Tan Hor noodle. Eat till very full leh and yet Auntie Claire worried that we are not full enough. 

Off we went to Restaurant Fong Wei Ge Hotpot.  The soup was pretty good .  Very appetising.

Plus a plate of Salted Egg Yolk fried Chicken. 

Uiks? Where's the photo of the Mun Yee Mee ah? Hmm...must have been too busy eating till forgotten to snap photo. 

That evening really full to the max . Auntie Claire suggested to go and have Ice Cream I also had to wave white flag. 

We had a good rest that night in the hotel and continue with more makan trip the next day. 

The  next morning we arranged to have breakfast with Auntie Claire and Auntie Wenn at  Restaurant Sin Choi Yuen at Taman Pertama.

I had Loh Mee. Hmm...didn't really like it coz different from the ones in KL. 

Mamarazzi had this delightful bowl of Wantan noodles with Dumplings. She loves the dumplings a lot as it's full of yummy ingredients. Similar to the ones she made at home. And surprisingly it only cost RM3.50. 

 Papa and Kaw Kaw shared the Char Keoy Teow and 

 The Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun. Am not sure how it taste coz didn't ask them

 Then Auntie Wenn and Auntie Claire ordered this for us to try. Glutionuos Rice with kaya. Look simple but taste good leh.

After the heavy breakfast, we drop by Auntie Wenn's  shop. Mamarazzi bough some dried stevia leaves and some  dried flowers to make soup.

Despite the stevia leaves are the dried type, she can see that it's still very fresh. The price is much cheaper than the place where she usually buy the stevia leaves.

Next time must buy some more from there.

Paiseh....Auntie Wenn also gave us some "hand letters" . Thank you very much Auntie Wenn.

 Second round breakfast at the hotel. Actually my heart was not into eating . i wanted to swim aje. The swimming pool was right by the cafe in the hotel .

Ah...that was a very enjoyable trip. Thank you Auntie Claire, Auntie Wenn and Auntie Nancy for everything .

Wah....seeing the announcement, Mamarazzi was like in 7th Heaven. She started to prepared plants for to bring to the Plant Exchange to be adopted a month ago. 

Last Plant Exchange we brought boxes full of plants to be adopted and super happy that they were snapped up in no time at all. Hopefully this round will be the same.

The rules are simple. ...

Bring a plant (or some plants) to the exchange. Make sure to label the ID of the plant. Drop the plant(s) at the exchange. And adopt a plant or two home.

Don't be shy if you do not have plants to be adopted/give out. Just come and bring one or two home. It's not compulsory to bring a plant for exchange but if you have, of course it is most welcomed.

This is also good for beginners who wanted to try gardening but unsure on how to go about it. Rather than going to the nurseries and fork out an unknown sum for a pot of plant . You can adopt a starter plant from the Bukit Jelutong Plant Exchange at no cost at all. The people at the plant exchange are very friendly and helpful.

Banana Leaf Meal at Home & Jumping onto the Moringa Craze Wagon

Moveover blueberries, salmon,  seaweed and etc.There is a new superfood in town.

Yup...over here we are having the Moringa plant craze. Said to be the superfood bla bla bla...(Go google dot com and find out la). Anyway.... do be cautious. All super food , eat in moderation.

The above are seed pods of the moringa plant and also well  know here as "drumsticks". It can be use for cooking and the seeds can be eaten. Price for 100gm of the seeds in the market now cost around RM20-RM30 depending on area. Nowadays, you can see many uncles and aunties munching these while watching TV.

Anyway, these drumsticks is not new to Papa. Ah Mah used to cook this when he was a kid. Papa have been missing it for some time.

Last week, Mamarazzi saw it being sold at the night market for RM8/kg. Bought some.  But...how to cook ar? No idea ....Papa said cook "Sambar" and suggested to look for it at Nava's blog. Indeed found a simple recipe at Nava's blog (http://www.nava-k.com/2012/05/murungakka-drumstick-sambar-lentil-stew.html).

The mango trees at the playground opposite our house also fruiting. 

Saw in Facebook someone in the gardening group making Mango Chutney. Mamarazzi plucked some of the mango and  decided to make Mango Chutney. Missed the Mango Chutney from Devi's.

Found another simple recipe from Nava's blog (http://www.nava-k.com/2012/12/mango-chutney.html). Love the recipe as the ingredients are simple and instruction simple to follow .

Hmmm..... since got two indian dishes...mamarazzi thinks...oh well...might as well have Banana Leaf rice at home.

Went out to the garden and cut some banana leaves. Cooked a few dishes.....and jeng jeng!!!!

Plucked some moringa leaves from the plant outside our house and fried with some eggy...I love eggy.

Fried some "garbage". Yup...I guess Mamarazzi will never let me forget that I mispronounced "Cabbage" and "Garbage" when I was younger. Just imagine your kid telling you that he wanna eat "garbage" (*LOL*)

Mamarazzi's Mango Chutney. Had to cooked 2 rounds as the 1st round cooked too long and it sorta "melted". She had to cut two more mangoes and add into the melted mango chutney. Taste okay la though the mango is a bit sour as compared to what she had at Devi's .Still delicious.

Papa's superfood. Drumsticks Sambar. The vege cooked a bit too long. Next time must not cook too long.

Made this Cucumber onion with yogurt for me as I like to eat this at Kanna Curry House but somehow at home I didn't feel like eating pulak. End up Papa sapu all.

Ah...this I like. Fried chicken. 

Oh ya hor...Banana Leaf rice must eat with Papadom. crunchy Papadom. Not bad lah this attempt of having Banana Lef rice at home. Only one regret of Mamarazzi is that she doesn't know how to make the fried salted chili. She loves to have that with the Banana Leaf rice.

The Mooncakes and Piggies Journey

Still have not set up my Vlog yet. Did I tell you that Papa got me a mini laptop? Now I look forward to coming home and want to hide finish up my homework fast fast so that I can "play" my "computer".

Mamarazzi pulak still addicted to K-Drama and HK Drama. Friend introduced her to watch "House of Spirit". Papa say I can watch Iflix using my mini laptop. Mamarazzi don;t let me use Youtube . Said might have something not suitable for my eyes wor.

 Despite addicted to K-Drama, Mamarazzi still have the "wind" to try her hand on making mooncakes. This is the first time she attempt to make "baked" type of mooncakes.

We made Snow Skin Mooncakes before (http://www.smallkucing.com/2011/08/my-snow-skin-mooncake.html). I had fun making that. It was very easy to make.

Baked ones is harder for Mamarazzi. There are so many online recipes. Some say this and some say that. And really hard to decide how much is the filling and how much is the skin needed.

As expected, she had problem "wrapping" the filling for the mooncakes. Ended patching "holes" here and there for the 1st attempt. Need a lot of "kungfu" to make the skin thin and this is something she had not master.

 First batch looked super ugly. Sent the photo to a friend in Whatsapps and her friend thought she made "tausa peah" (LOL)

 Skin cracked. Means oven too hot and the color uneven coz too much egg wash. 

 Thankfully Sifu Angie was on Whatsapps guiding her. The wrapping for 2nd batch nearly perfect.

 Second batch turns out not bad. This one just came out from the oven yesterday. Colour looks a bit off but then this morning Mamarazzi took a peek...the color seems to even out . Sifu is correct. Color will even out when the mooncake cool down in a day or two.

 Papa wanted to try ...hence Mamarazzi cut up one for him.  Skin is still very hard.  Like eating biscuits. Yup...mooncakes have to be stored 2-3 days before eating so that the skin can become soft.

Many years ago, Mamarazzi had eaten a Red Bean mooncake that have very fragrant rose scent. She had forgotten the brand and subsequent years, can't seems to find it again. Hence this round, she add some of the rose flavouring to the "skin" and "fillings" of the mooncake. It smell so nice when baking.

Papa said the scent too strong; making the mooncakes seems very sweet though the taste was not that sweet. Next round must put less of the essence .

Conclusion....no wonder mooncake is so expensive la.

UPDATE :

Came home from school today and found these piggies chillaxing on the dining table. Wah....i can give to my girlfriends lor.

Found 5 more on the other tray. Much rounder  and fatter..but how come got chicken pox geh?

Mamarazzi said nevermind wor...in a day or two the chicken pox would be gone wor...Have to wait and see la.

Kajang Hot Pepper Soup Restaurant, Centerpoint Bandar Utama

Yesterday I had a "storming" session in PJ. My 1st time. Luckily, the whole group of us passed the grading test.

Mamarazzi  saw and asked why so "lembik" also can pass ah? If comes to real thingy, the big bad wolf huffed and puffed, me and my friends would have flown away with the wind liao.

Anyway, after the storming session, there was a real storm (**a bit exaggeration) brewing. Very windy and was raining.

Mamarazzi wanted to have something soupy and warm. Papa recalled Auntie Annie's FB post on Kajang Hot Pepper Soup in CenterPoint. Off we went lo.

Arrived just in time to grab a table coz after that, many came. There was a queue waiting for available table.

Of course must order the famous  hot pepper soup . Got pork belly slices, liver, stomach and chicken meat. Loaded with fiery hot black pepper. Mamarazzi said just nice for a rainy day. Ah...if add a bit more cooking wine would be perfect.

For me...i don't like hot pepper soup. My favourite is this. Crispy pork.

Yea...now i like to take video using my phone. Maybe i might start a Vlog instead since Mamarazzi seems to be getting lazy to blog. Still addicted to korean drama. Now becoming worse..add with chinese drama some more. A friend introduced her to "icdrama" website which have more shows than iflix. Cham loh...

I polished off half of this. I super like it  . Mamarazzi just had a few slices coz she was enjoying the hot pepper soup.

She also ordered this claypot taufu for me. She was surprised  at how good this tasted as compared to others. The cabbages was cooked till melted , making the gravy super sweet and flavourful.

Will we come back for more? Yes. Though we had to wait long for the food but it was worth the wait.
